My role in Boxes by Design involved creating variable standards for five products shown above, enabling automatic generation of a dieline once customers entered their desired dimensions (length, width, depth) and board type.
ArtiosCAD lacked the integrated functions necessary to use FEFCO standards for our e-commerce requirements. Therefore, I was tasked with learning Solvespace 2D software to develop these standards from scratch.
Shown to the right is the final result of the E-Comm Mailer, showcasing all its rules, variables, and constraints. This demonstrates the level of detail required to ensure functionality in this design standard.
Here is a detailed breakdown of the constraints used within Solvespace 2D to ensure these standards function as intended, securing every point and line according to various specifications:
-Locked Vertical (V) and Horizontal (H) Lines
-Changeable variables including Length, Width, Depth
-Variable Allowance to accommodate different thicknesses between E, B, and C flute
-Equations with minimum and maximum results to prevent interference among panels or flaps based on variable dimensions
-Setup for bleeds and masks to simplify artwork application for customers unfamiliar with digital printing requirements
The RSC (Regular Slotted Container) below provides a simplified representation of some of these constraints necessary for the mailer, along with a compilation of numerous designs printed under this project.
